Ada Sadler
RECENT PAINTINGS
September 1 - October 1, 2005
Opening Reception: Thursday, September 1, 5:30-7:30 PM
In Recent Paintings, Ada Sadler’s chair portraits continue to evolve. Sadler focuses the work in this exhibit on chairs she finds in hallways and university campuses. She is attracted to the quality of these specific chairs; the color and texture of the upholstery, the wood or metal frame, the subtlety of the form and the quality of the surroundings. Sadler takes several photographs of the chairs, positioning them to catch the light in different ways. While Sadler bases her paintings on these photographs, they do not aim to be photorealistic. Rather Sadler relies on her memory and intuition to dictate compositional elements. Her process is meticulous and delicate. Each painting is created with a extremely fine brush applying thin layers of oil paint, giving the final painting a luminously smooth finish.
