To activate a powerful sense of movement, energy, and forms in space, Tom Lieber creates distinct contrasts, frequently pairing modulated passages of color and gesture with vigorous black lines — many of which are inspired by the lush and volcanic landscape of Hawaii, where he lives. Over the course of a forty-year career, Lieber has experimented with the limitless possibilities offered by abstraction and its legacy, creating an extraordinary visual language in the process.
